Apprenticeship Business Developer - Western New York & Finger Lakes Regions - SUNY Office of Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline

The State University of New York Office of Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline is seeking a personable, organized, and self-directed professional with strong skills in communication for the position of Apprenticeship Business Developer (ABD) in the expanded SUNY Apprenticeship Program. This position will report to the Director of Workforce Development. The primary role of the Apprenticeship Business Developer is to grow apprenticeships in manufacturing, healthcare and other non-construction sectors. This is a remote position that will service and travel within the Western New York Region and Finger Lakes Region.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with regional NYS Department of Labor Apprenticeship Training Representatives
  • Coordinate outreach activities with regional SUNY institutions' apprenticeship staff and other partners
  • Collaborate closely with SUNY System Administration apprenticeship team
  • Identify and research potential companies to target for apprenticeship initiatives
  • Gain and maintain an understanding of NYS Registered Apprenticeship, the regional labor market, industry sectors and employment opportunities
  • Meet with and develop relationships with prospective companies to establish apprenticeship programs
  • Monitor and follow up with employer prospects with the goal of establishing a Registered Apprenticeship program
  • Develop and give presentations to employers as well as community and business groups on Registered Apprenticeship
  • Represent the SUNY Apprenticeship Program by attending regional meetings and networking functions
  • Participate in regional and statewide virtual and in-person meetings tied to apprenticeship and workforce development programs
  • Interact with school districts and BOCES to build apprenticeship pipelines
    • Attend events focused on college and career pathways
    • Introduce apprenticeship opportunities to students, guidance counselors, teachers, etc.
  • Track meetings and prospect status for qualified prospects and ensure coordination between all stakeholders
  • Complete regular reporting to meet grant guidelines
  • Perform administrative functions as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SUNY System


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three years of experience in a related field such as workforce development, sales, customer service/support, or business development
  • Ability to work with and coordinate activities with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to travel 65 - 75% or more, predominantly within the designated region. Some statewide and overnight travel may be required
  • Ability to be flexible, positive, take initiative, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate good judgment
  • Ability to take initiative and work without extensive task-by-task supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in a related field. Experience with data collection and reporting
  • Understanding of NYS Registered Apprenticeship


Additional Information:

Salary:

$55,000 - S60,000
